Cons of The Carex Toilet Safety Rails, Toilet Handles For Elderly
1) Unsafe: 10 out of 459: “after he used the rails to help himself arise from his throne, that if you are NOT able to exert EQUAL pressure constantly on BOTH sides at the SAME time while PUSHING up (he has partial paralysis on the left side) the support WILL TIP sideways. He took a bad tumble into the bathtub head first. This is a $$$$ item and is unreturnable! I cannot recommend this product for anyone who may have weak-sided issues.”
“Unfortunately, we cannot use it. In order for it to remain stable, you have to distribute your weight evenly (applying pressure on both handles). If you try to hold on to only one side, it will tip to that side and the person using it can lose balance and fall. My Dad is 94 with dementia and it’s hard to teach him new things. He generally uses his right hand for leverage when he’s getting up or down and I didn’t realize that would be a problem until we tried it. Not a negative review, but something to think about before purchasing. If you need stable support, especially in the bathroom where a fall can be pretty bad, consider installing a metal rail that you can attach to the floor or wall instead.”
If yours is wobbly, check the following:
1) Is your floor level?
2) Did you install the four snap clips properly (they must be pushed in all the way until they snap in place snugly against the metal leg all the way around the clip)?
3) Are the hex heads of the four bolts properly seated fully into the hexagonal openings and not just resting on the surface of the leg?
2) Did Not Fit: 5 out of 459: The frame was either too small for the toilet or took too much space or it interfered with the functioning of the toilet. The solution here is to spend more time looking over the measurements and/or talking to customer service prior to purchasing the product.
3) Delivered Wrong Product: 4 out of 459: They did not get what they ordered.
